Marcio started playing drums at the age of 14. After studying privately for two years with Larry Rose, he pursued his passion for playing the drums by enrolling at the NSA, graduating in 2000 with full colours. He continued his studies in music and sound engineering completing his N6 in 2002. As one of the original members of the percussion act 1st Project, he gained experience as a professional working musician over a five-year period making TV appearances, hundreds of corporate functions, major festivals and doing the club circuit. He has performed for well-known celebrities such as Nelson Mandela, Mark Shuttleworth, Phat Joe and the Springboks to name a few.

After his five-year tenure with 1st Project, he has been performing on a regular basis for with band 8th Avenue and as a member of the well-known band Mean Mr Mustard, playing the club circuits around Johannesburg, performing at corporate events and private functions... As a freelance musician, he has performed with the Soweto Orchestra Quadro, Emmanuel Castis, Overtone, The Narrow, Raul and Black Friday, High Definition and The Black Ties. His theatre performances include The Big Top Burlesque, Killer Queen & Boma Barn Yard shows. Studio recordings include Apollo 7, of which he is a full-time member & indie rock band Zoe’z Fallacy. He also performs with the praise and worship bands at Christian Family Church and Mosaiek.

Marcio also maintains a teaching career. He began teaching private lessons at schools such as King David Linksfield, Saint Dominic's and Reddam House. In 2003 he took on a full-time teaching post at Campus of Performing Arts, (COPA). In addition to teaching Drums and Percussion, he also taught History of Music and Rhythmic Dictation and contributed to the development of Unit Standards relating to SAQAs music qualification. Marcio’s written and compiled some of the drum related course material at COPA and is a qualified facilitator and registered assessor. He held a ten-year tenure at COPA as head of the drums department from 2003 to 2013. He currently teaches at Tutor Music and from his own studio called The Drum Pad.
